An $11 Billion Dollar Problem
Oklahoma owes a large, unfunded debt and it threatens to bankrupt our state. Oklahoma’s state pension debt is more than the state takes in every year, a staggering $11 billion dollars owed to our teachers, public employees, police, firefighters, law enforcement officers, and judges after years of service… and it’s only going to get worse.
Unless we act now.
Secure Oklahoma is a coalition of taxpayers, small business owners and civic-minded activists working with state officials to fix the problem. We believe in three principles:
- Oklahoma should cap the problem, and move to a predictable, cost defined system for pensions.
- Oklahoma should fully fund the promises made to existing state employees and offer future employees fair benefits.
- New hires in the system should be placed into a defined contribution-style plan.
